The Birth of American Karate Studios

From his roots in Philadelphia, Grandmaster Jack L. Morris’ dedication to the martial arts has spanned more than fifty years.  Sensei Morris’ experience in Karate is varied and extensive.  He holds a 9th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo Karate, a 6th Degree Black Belt in Japanese Shotokan Karate and a black belt in the Joe Lewis’ Fighting System.

When Sensei Morris moved to Tallahassee in the early 80’s, he started teaching karate in local churches as an outreach ministry. Around 1995, he and his wife Linda opened the doors of American Karate Studios at its Shannon Lakes location.

Sensei Morris has trained over 600 students. Several of these students, like Sensei James Caldwell, Jr. trained with him for over two decades and still serve as positive role models to our school and community.
